VERNON HILLS - The reality TV show “Toddlers and Tiaras” is nothing like the pageants three local pageant queens compete in.

While the TV show features children who wear elaborate make-up and hairstyles, none of the three girls who are advancing to compete in the National American Miss Pageant next month are even allowed to wear make up.

“They just want you to be yourself. You are supposed to be yourself,” said Tatum Pearlman, 7.

I have to admit that when we came last year I was a little hesitant (of course from the bad publicity of T&T on t.v.), however after experiencing last year I was so happy we did it. May 3 - In all the years my daughter has being doing NAM, we have never spent much on clothing, and in fact use some of the same outfits. NAM has given Marissa so much confidence and it has taken her very far. thanks NAM. ~Penny D.
Apr 13 - NAM doesn't do swimwear in their pageants. That's one of the reasons I allow my 16 year old daughter to do them. NAM is awesome for making girls feel like they are all the best! They have helped make my daughter who she is today. She used to be shy, but now she's outgoing and currently holds the title of Miss Rio Linda for our hometown! Something she would never have done if she had not done NAM before. This will be get 4th year doing it, and I hope she wants to do this until she is no longer able to! Can't say enough about NAM and how thus pageant is run and how is helps girls to become the best they could possibly be!! ~ Cary M.
Apr 10 - I'm so grateful to National American Miss for the skills and confidence it has instilled in me. I was just accepted to my dream school UCLA, and with only 15 spots available in my program, I'm positive the experience of NAM gave me my competitive edge. I highly encourage every girl to try National American Miss. You will walk away with lifelong skills that will prepare you for job interviews, school, etc and the most amazing friends you could ever dream of. Dec 7 - Just to let you know, NAM has really done wonders on my daughter Josey. Last night she had her first band concert (french horn) and she was calm and confident. She said some of the other kids were nervous and she helped to keep them calm. The pageant really helped Josey cope with situations that are out of her comfort zone. ~Kelly O.
