NAMiss Cover Girl gives back in NJ at the Walk for a Cure and the Salvation Army

These are pictures from Kayla Da Cruz out in New Jersey. Kayla is your National American Miss Jr. Pre Teen Cover Girl from New Jersey as well as a the National Cover Miss for Jr Pre Teen! Achieving the National Cover Miss title is quite an accomplishment. Kayla also was voted Miss Personality at last years state show, no surprise there! :-)

Kayla and her mom formed a team to participate in a walk for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer (Walk for A Cure) in their hometown of Newark NJ on April 26, 2009. Kayla not only walked but worked hard to raise funds for this very important organization. Here is a link to the Susan B. Komen website if you would like to find an event near you: http://ww5.komen.org/
Her mom wrote to me and shared that "Kayla also approached The Salvation Army Ironbound Boys and Girls Club with the desire to help the youth in our community by collecting children's books for donation to their program. During the course of 1 month Kayla collected and donated 63 books that are going to be used in the after school program, and will help provide the children of this community with the essential tools needed for a successful, bright future. Kayla enjoys helping her community and loves to motivate others to do the same."

This first picture is from the Walk for a Cure and the second is Kayla donating books to The Boys & Girls Club of America. That is Kayla with the Executive Director Richard Partyka. The books and bears program is done at every National American Miss state show nation wide. It would be hard to count how many books and bears are donated to different organizations each year from NAM but I can tell you that it is enough to fill an entire library! Thanks for your help Kayla and your willingness to work hard serving others.

NAMiss girl on the cover of Dallas Child Magazine

Here's a picture of the Cover of Dallas Child Magazine for August. Kaylie R Nelson is the girl featured on the cover; she is a long time outstanding National American Miss girl! She has won first place in the casual wear competition at the NAMiss Texas pageant in Dallas for the last two years.

Her mom e-mailed us the picture and said "She loves National American Miss. We just got back from competing in Dallas last weekend and had an awesome time. Kaylie got fourth runner up over all, first place in the casual wear, first runner up most promising model, and fourth runner up in photogenic. Thank you guys for haveing such a great pageant system. It is the only one we do now, every year. Kaylie has grown so much as a model and in many ways. It has helped her grow more confident in herself and now she does lots of leading roles in her school plays."

Here's a link to the magazines home page: http://www.dallaschild.com/issuelist.asp

Thank you to Sonja and Kaylie Nelson for sharing the picture with us. Great job making the cover!

Letter from a National American Miss family

I always say at my events that my favorite part is receiving the phone calls, letters and e-mails after the events from the families. I believe what we are doing here at National American Miss is so important for the young ladies who participate and I love seeing the impact we make in their lives. Here is an e-mail I just received from a family that I thought I would share:

Dear Brian and Megan,

First of all, thank you both for being the best state directors we could ever have! You are so welcoming and friendly; it made me feel right at home! Ever since the beginning of my involvement of National American Miss in February I have seen so many improvements in myself. I feel more confident towards anything I do. I speak without fearing I might stumble or forget what I’m supposed to say. I’ve become even more involved in the community, for I love to help people. National American Miss has really been a great experience and I hope that I can to continue to compete through the years that come. I had such a great time and I truly hope to see you two at this year’s National pageant in Anaheim, California! Thank you so much for all you’ve done and giving me this wonderful opportunity!

Love Always,

Courtney Day

National American Miss California Jr. Teen Queen

I clipped this from another blog this morning because I thought it was a great post. It's from http://simplyshabbyjlquilts.blogspot.com/2009/08/national-american-miss-2009.html. Enjoy! Thanks for a great year Ashlyn, you are a wonderful representative of National American Miss.

"This past weekend we had the honor of attending our granddaughter Ashlyn's passing on of her crown in Santa Clara, CA. for the title of National American Miss pageant. She won for Miss California. She is a beautiful person inside and out and did a very wonderful job this year. Ashlyn passed on her crown to another beautiful winner and was exhausted after her three-day affair. Therefore, we are leaving for a week at the beach and much needed rest. And here she is."

Namiss State Ambassador donates to Locks of Love

"Hi! My name is Samantha Swayze. I am 8 years old and live in Gig Harbor, Washington and am a State Ambassador from the 2008 Washington Jr. Pre-Teen pageant. I thought it would be fun to share with you something I did this summer. I cut a 12 inch ponytail and donated it to Locks of Love, a company in Florida that makes wigs for children with cancer."

Thanks Samantha! Locks of Love is a great organization; http://www.locksoflove.org/ Samantha is planning to visit some of the children at Marybridge Childrens Hospital located in Tacoma, Washington, to give out stuffed animals, puzzles &/or books. She says "I think it sounds like fun and I think the children will love it!!!"

Samantha is a great example of how everyone can make a difference by giving a little bit of their time. National American Miss is proud to have you representing our program Samantha, keep up the good work!
