NAMiss CA Queen's letter to the contestants

I just received a farewell letter from our reigning Miss Queen in California and wanted to share it with everyone. We print these letters along with a few pictures in our National American Miss state program books every year for all of the new contestants to read. This one is from Jocely Evangelista and I think she did a great job, love the message.

Here is what she has to say:

Dear Contestants,
First of all, you all deserve a huge congratulations for being here, because you’ve made it past all of the paperwork and planning, and now you‘re on your way to truly shine!
When I was crowned as the 2008-2009 National American Miss California, I never imagined that I would experience one of the greatest years of my lifetime. Not only did I make amazing friends, but I gained the self-confidence to pursue any goal that I set my mind to.
When I took a part in my first NAM pageant at the age of eighteen, I was exactly in your shoes: excited, nervous, wondering what will happen next, and anxious… ALL rolled into one. And now, here I am, three years later, writing my own farewell letter- something that I only could’ve dreamed of back then.

But ladies, no matter what happens, always remember the true meaning of this weekend: the objective isn’t to leave with a crown on your head… Just the memories in your heart, and new confidence, and wonderful friends to call your own. So, come on and throw on those heels! We’re all setting off on this journey together.

Wishing You The Best of Luck,Jocelyn Evangelista

National American Miss role models

This is a fun picture of Nicole Renard, reigning National American Miss All-American Pre-Teen Queen and her sister Victoria Renard the reigning National Photogenic winner from our national pageant last November in Anaheim, California.

Nicole was recently named an All-American Scholar by the United States Achievement Academy. She was nominated by her Algebra teacher (she is taking high school Algebra in the 8th grade). Here is the link to the website.

Also, last week she was honored by her principal for having a 4.0 GPA for all semesters in Middle School. Way to go Nicole! Both of these girls are super talented and super sweet girls. We are so proud to have representatives like them for National American Miss.

Miss Indiana and the American Cancer Society

Jackie Gessert, National American Miss Indiana Junior Teen Queen, was the featured singer for National Cancer Survivor's Day "Picnic in the Park" in Munster, IN. The event was held at the Veteran's Memorial pavilion on June 7th. Jackie sang songs of inspiration to cancer survivors and their families. Jackie's mom said that "She was incredibly honored to hear the stories of each of these remarkable people."

Anyone can access the programs and services offered by the organization by calling 800.227.2345 or logging on to cancer.org. National Cancer Survivors Day is the perfect time to let people know about all the ways the American Cancer Society can help during every step of the cancer experience and beyond. National Cancer Survivors Day is organized by the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation.

Great job Jackie. :-)

Namiss WA Teen Queen makes top 20 on the hit show "So You Think You Can Dance"

Check out your former National American Miss Washington Teen Queen Paris Torres on the hit fox show "So You Think You Can Dance!" Paris just made it to the Top 20 and will be seen when the show starts to air tomorrow night, Wednesday, June 10th at 8pm ET. Be sure to watch and make sure you vote for Paris!! Here are some picks and the write up from the fox website: http://www.fox.com/dance/ In the group photo Paris is on the floor front and center.

After thousands of auditions across the country and the grueling callbacks in Las Vegas, the judges of summer’s No. 1 series, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, announced Season Five’s Top 20 finalists tonight. The top girls include Randi Evans, Karla Garcia, Caitlin Kinney, Asuka Kondoh, Janette Manrara, Jeanine Mason, Kayla Radomski, Melissa Sandvig, Paris Torres and Ashley Valerio; and the top guys are Kupono Aweau, Tony Bellissimo, Brandon Bryant, Phillip Chbeeb, Jason Glover, Vitolio Jeune, Max Kapitannikov, Evan Kasprzak, Ade Obayomi and Jonathan Platero.

The competition truly begins Wednesday, June 10 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) as the Top 20 finalists dance for the judges’ praise and America’s votes on the season’s first performance show. The Top 20 are paired into 10 couples who will each work with a world-renowned choreographer to compose a dance routine representing their assigned genre. After each Wednesday performance show, the phone lines will open and the fate of these 20 finalists – one of whom will be the named America’s Favorite Dancer – will be left up to the voting fans.
On the live results shows beginning Thursday, June 11 (9:00-10:00 PM ET live PT/tape-delayed), the three couples with the lowest number of votes will be announced. Each week the six contestants comprising the bottom three couples are given a chance to perform solo routines in the hopes of convincing the judges to keep them in the competition. The judges then decide which dancers stay and which two are eliminated. If a couple is split apart, the two individual dancers who remain become a couple the following week.
